August 26th 2018 "An Honest Moment With Self"
This past Sunday we looked at the “Seven Letters to the Seven Churches” found in Revelation 2 and 3. There are 3 truths that God revealed in all seven of the letters to all the churches:
- “I know you”
- “A Call to Repentance”
- “Hear what the Spirit has to say”
We were challenged in the sermon to consider what kind of letter would God writ about us? God could certainly include these “3 Truths” in that letter to us and/or to our church here at Lester Memorial. My plan is to preach a sermon on each of these “3 Truths” over the next three Sundays. August 26, September 2 and September 9.
The Seven Letters
“An Honest Moment With Self”
We must accept the truth that God Almighty knows everything about us. Two questions to think about: “How well do we know ourselves? How is it with you and that person in the mirror?
God loves us too much --- to leave us the way we are.
Psalm 139:7, 23-24 (NKJV) Verse 7 “Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?”
“23 Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. 24 See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”
Proverbs 14:16 A wise man fears and departs from evil, But a fool rages and is self-confident.
Luke 9:23 Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.
(Did Jesus say, “deny self”?)
Sometimes the hardest conversation to have is the one with yourself. Brutal honesty begins when we look in the mirror and speak truth about what we see.
