LUKE 24:44-53                                             GOD’S GAME PLAN

He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.”

45 Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. 46 He told them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, 47 and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses of these things. 49 I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”

50 When he had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany, he lifted up his hands and blessed them. 51 While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven. 52 Then they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy. 53 And they stayed continually at the temple, praising God.

  1. Jesus’ entry into history was not an afterthought. It is the prophetic FULFILLMENT of God’s purpose.

Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. 5 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.                                          Isaiah 53:4-5

  1. With God’s help and some personal INVESTMENT we can understand the Scriptures.

  • The Scriptures tell of Jesus’ death and Resurrection in ADVANCE.    (vv.45-46)

  • REPENTANCE for the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed in his name!   (v.47)

  1. We are God’s WITNESSES!

  1. We are effective witnesses when we are clothed with POWER from on high!

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

                                                    Acts 1:8

  1. “Stay in the city…” is an analogy for staying before (focusing on) God until the Spirit produces in us a lively PRESENCE of God.
