“Supplying and Sowing Seeds through Generosity”
2 Corinthians 9:10-11 (NIV) “10 Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. 11 You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.”
Galatians 6:7-10 (NIV) 7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. 8 Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. 9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.
Our stewardship theme is “Generosity of Giving” and our focus Scripture is 2 Corinthians 9:10-11. The principles of supplying seed, sowing, and harvesting are found throughout the Bible. Every culture and nation around the world understands supplying seeds, planting seeds and gathering a harvest. The first mention of seeds and harvesting found in the Bible is given as a promise to humanity. (Genesis 8:22 “While the earth remains, Seedtime and harvest, Cold and heat, Winter and summer, And day and night Shall not cease.”)
Many of us have taught our children and/or our grandchildren the fun and excitement of planting a seed in the earth and watching it come forth and multiply. Throughout the Bible God has always commanded and challenged His people to sow generously and faithfully. (We sow and supply with our time, talent, finances, gifts and service.)
How do you sow into God’s Kingdom?
Ask God what giving and sowing looks like for you?
