 SCOUTING MINISTRIES AT LMUMC

Scouting has always been a priority for Lester Memorial UMC, but only recently have we become really involved.

  • Our United Methodist Men sponsor the Venturing group 1 for young men and women, ages 14-20. Their purpose is to provide experiences to help young people mature and become responsible and caring adults. They learn leadership skills and participate in challenging outdoor activities, like a hike last year near the US/Canada border in upper Minnesota. Martin Copeland serves as one of their leaders. (Our UMM have sponsored this group for 2 years)

  • Cub Scouting Pack 53 is also sponsored by our Church. This group meets weekly on Tuesdays in the Church basement under the Sanctuary. This group is led by Rita Treutel and others. They have 45 boys in attendance. They have Pack Gatherings on the 4th Tuesday of each month in the Fellowship Hall, a special program where the boys are presented the achievements earned during the previous month.

  • Girl Scouts are now meeting weekly on Thursdays from 6-8pm in the Church basement. P J Bicknell serves as troop leader.

  • Boy Scouts are also active in the life of our Church.     (at least 6 eagle scouts at Lester)
LMUMC observed Scout Sunday on February 14, 2010. Over 50 scouts along with leaders and parents were present. They brought in the flags and led in the Pledge of Allegiance. It was a joy to see so many of them and to be able to support them in Scouting adventures.
